Update 2: GWU to discuss port workers' recognition with MMA

(Adds MDU's reaction)

The GWU said it is continuing to insist on its February 25 request to the Malta Maritime Authority for official recognition of licensed port workers and a meeting with the MMA is scheduled for Monday.

It said it had enough proof to confirm it enjoyed the majority support of licensed port workers.

The GWU and the Malta Dockers' Union are engaged in a tug of war for recognition as the port workers' representatives, with both saying they enjoy a majority.

In the afternoon, the MDU insisted in a statement that it had the majority with 327 out of the 370 licensed workers paying it a membership fee.
