Malta among top three diving destinations
The 35,000 readers of 'Diver' Magazine have recognised Malta's reputation as one of the premier dive destinations in the world by voting it above all other European countries in their annual 'Diver Awards', the Malta Tourism Authority said.
The magazine's March issue says Malta was topped only by Egypt and the Maldives.
"The waters around Malta and Gozo are blessed with rocky reefs, sea caves, plentiful marine life and the wrecks of ships from Malta's rich maritime history - with such a variety of dives concentrated around the tiny island nation it is little wonder that the islands have been honoured with the award," the Authority said.
"The award demonstrates that Malta and Gozo are becoming highly regarded holiday destinations for the more adventurous."

Let's hope that in these times of pressing economic conditions, let alone competitiveness for every tourist pound/dollar/euro... that Malta's inclusion in this is appropriately promoted, via the MALTA TOURIST AUTHORITY'S pr and marketing agency.... I understand they are German owned... Let's hope they capitalise on this kind of result by issuing press releases and looking for dive sector examples of photographs and so on, to really push for feature articles and the like... Or is that just me, as someone who worked professionally in the industry, hoping beyond hope that Malta will stand up and be counted.

Nothing really.
But according to the little elves anything good in Malta these days is contributed to Joseph Muscat.

Finally Malta's Underwater Environment is getting the recognition it deserves. Very few diving destinations in the world can offer such a variety for all underwater interests and experience such as topography and wreck dives both in shallow waters or deeper for technical demand. All dive sites are complimented with the clear blue waters offering reasonable visibility. This recognition in a reputable diving magazines is proof that the marketing that has been done in these last few years is being effective. A lot more needs to be done to justify the beauty of our local underwater experience.

Very positive news, especially for a country that heavily depends on tourism. It is up to US Maltese to keep them clean, safe and accessible. My main concern are the fish farms which have contributed to killing marine life in their vicinities.

At least one section of foreigners recognise the worth of our Islands! Let's hope the rest of the people on this island follow suit and start appreciating our God-given gifts! As a diver who has visited the amazing seas around Egypt, all I can honestly say is that I am immensly lucky to be blessed with living in one of the top diving spots in the workd. Please let's keep it this way if we can't improve it!!
