Labour calls for withdrawal of museum extension applications

Labour has called on the St John's Co-Cathedral Foundation to respect the unanimous decision taken by the country's political parties and withdraw its two development applications to extend the cathedral's museum.

The party's spokesman for planning, Roderick Galdes said the foundation was not fully respecting democracy and the national interest when it said it needed to discuss the issue before withdrawing the applications.

He said the decision to remove the risk of any damage to the cathedral and its vicinity was taken by the people, represented by the politicians.

He could not understand how the foundation had decided to continue discussing the issue when the project's fate had already been decided.
