CNI petition launch
The Campaign for National Independence has announced the launch of a nationwide campaign to collect signatures to petition the government to take urgent action against illegal immigration.
The group will go around every town and village, starting with Marsa today when CNI, headed by former Prime Minister Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici, will visit the village that has been in the spotlight because of the presence of the open centre.
CNI said immigration was threatening the island and the idea was to lobby people who held the country's freedom at heart.

It is states that defy international law not persons.
And yes, if need be Malta should defy it because no state is obliged to carry out obligations to its own and its peoples detriment.

IGalea: are you prepared to defy the law to change it?

Alex Spiteri The thing is that having signatures on the petition will force the government to act since if it does not it will be defying the people. Michael Seychell, international law is changed by states defying it and not complying with it. Furthermore, no state is forced to accept that which is causing harm to it and its citizens. Furthermore, the refugee convention itself provides for its renunciation. So yes, if need be we have to renounce to it because it is way past its sell by date and it is not serving the purpose for which it was made. European legislation is only exacerbating our illegal immigrats problems so to hell with it. If the ex-colonizers do not care about those whom they had colonized, they have no right to impose them upon us. Period. I and my family will sign it as soon as it is presented to us.

I have already commented on this news item, the substance of my comment being: As one of the most a senior lawyers, - referring to experience and not age - it should not be that diffic ult for Karmenu to draft a resolution on illigal immigration in Malta, based on European and Internarional Laws. I have convinced my family as well as some friends to sign such a resolution, after this is scrutinised and approved by a senior judge that this is in conformity with European and International legislation which binds our country. Even if i don't agree with your motives or with your ideals, but I will be the first to sign this petition against illegal immigration. and I love my country. Everyone now is in favour of taking action against this scourge of illegal immigration. Now its truly on the agenda except on the government's one.

Where do i sign ? Everybody seems to be speaking up about this serious crisis . But the government is just not listening . The whole country (except for a handfull of do-gooders & NGOs) is in favour of urgent and heavy handed action when it comes to the illegal immigrants . All the immigrants need to be deported right away . (And Not paid to leave) All future "would be immigrants" must be turned back . There is no other way around it . Dr. Gonzi , please listen , if you do this you have the backing of the whole of Malta regardless of political creed . Do it , take action now . Before it is too late .

although i admire KMB for his involvement in such a problem, i think the petition campaign is simply a waste of time and resources. beside of having no constitutional obligations, petitions are ideal only to pressure the government on certain issues. on illegal immigration the government needs no petitions to feel the people concerns over the issue. reading the comments over the timesofmalta.com would be enough! the government inaction over this threat is only due to the fact that there aren't any valid politicians in the government able to solve the problem! people needs to realise once and for all, that solution to this problem is beyond MLPN!
