The Campaign for National Independence has announced the launch of a nationwide campaign to collect signatures to petition the government to take urgent action against illegal immigration.

The group will go around every town and village, starting with Marsa today when CNI, headed by former Prime Minister Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici, will visit the village that has been in the spotlight because of the presence of the open centre.

CNI said immigration was threatening the island and the idea was to lobby people who held the country's freedom at heart.
