KSU and the stipend
It was reported in The Times (February 26) that in a survey held recently, 11 per cent of University students randomly selected expressed the view that the stipend should be removed. I wonder if the same survey enquired whether these students had flashy cars given to them by their parents. I venture to say that 11 per cent would have answered yes.

To Mr Brincat and those who ask: "why should the tax payer pay for students", maybe we should cut out compensation to those who do not work first? While that the stipend is a sort of incentive to keep on further educating oneself to be ready for the labour market, those who choose not to work are still getting a cheque at the end of the month encouraging them to keep their useless lifestyle.

A means tested system would allow for a far better distribution of public funds. This method has been used for years in the UK, successfully I might add. Though I imagine it would be fairly difficult to assess in a nation where most are afraid to declare what they earn, whilst others don't declare honestly.

I think a review of the stipend is needed. why should the tax payer pay for students, alot of them who do not need any further money in the first place. In what i have seen most of this stipend is being spent at bars and entertainment anyway. maybe there being a way of reviewing who needs a stipend and who does not.
