I read the article entitled Soldiers Celebrate Absent Gunner's Birthday (February 24) and must confess that I was very much moved by this story. The kindness and Christian thoughtfulness of the late Matthew's family is an example to us all.

Although I personally never knew Matthew, I must admit that his total dedication to his family, friends and, above all, his country, impressed me immensely. Everyone, especially those in his age bracket, should take an example from his values and Malta would be a far better place than it is now.

I, for one, will always think of him in my prayers knowing that he is now Christ's soldier, and I would like to publicly thank from my heart his family for his exemplary upbringing.

Matthew is now with Our Lord praying for us all especially his family, the family that brought him up into such a fine young man.
