Shade or potholes?
Some time ago, Pia Zammit wrote an article, about driving in Malta. In her article, Ms Zammit had said that people in Malta do not drive on the left-hand side of the road but they drive in the shade, irrelevant of which that is on.
Nowadays, that article would have to be amended: People in Malta do not drive on the left-hand side of the road, they drive on the side with least potholes!

Hi Pia,
glad to see that you agree with me! I myself haven't been driving for long, just one year. However, I drive a car which has low-profile tyres (not my choice) and in a year I've changed something like 6 (burst) tyres. So you can imagine that now I've learnt to drive more slowly... and keep a very sharp eye for the potholes! I drive between Birkirkara and Madliena everyday (if not more than once a day!) I've learnt the potholes off by heart! Last time, my dad and I went through the same route, but my dad was driving... I spent the whole trip warning him where all the holes where!
I get a fright when it rains... as I never know where the next pot hole will crop up (or rather be dug out...)

Ms Ellul's suggestion definitely applies to the road leading to Armier/Aħrax where only one side is decently surfaced.

@H. Grima
Yeah I know which one you're talking about. Some even damaged their bumper cause it's so deep!

A few weeks ago there were a lot of letters and comments on the state of the roads in Malta, and, after waking up about a week later, some sort of patching was seen being done.
The largest crater in the Marsaskala Bypass was very near the Chefchoice outlet, where many cars could be seen having their flat tyer(s) changed.
There was a sigh of relief when it was eventually patched over. At least a driver did not have to look for/evade potholes while doing only 30km/hr. Now, all one had to do was look out for parked cars reversing into traffic.
Now there are two massive potholes........not just one. Driving at a reduced speed does not save you from going into them.
What did they patch potholes with; soil??
Somebody is making a buck!!

I must congratulate Floriana local council for repairing the patch of Robert Sammut street near the Lion monument just 3 days ago. But now it has incidentally rained again. The material used was water soluble and is now slightly worse than what it was!
Do people get paid to do such a mess?

This morning they were patching the road near Pitkali (Ta Qali) with cold asphalt which looked more like pigeon crap!
Result = WASTE OF MONEY once more!
