Government must act on immigration (1)
The six guards refused to unlock the doors. They refused to open the doors of a blazing chapel jam-packed with people. The people were screaming in agony and banging on doors, but the guards did nothing. They did nothing because if they did open the chapel doors, the terrified prisoners would rush out, disperse and flee. If the prisoners escaped, the guards would have failed their masters: In this case the Nazi regime. To their minds failing the Nazi regime was synonymous with betraying their nation.
I am sure that in the few critical minutes of dilemma, all six guards wished to free the prisoners of the flames. They all wanted to do just that, but who would be the one to suggest it and assume responsibility? Who would answer to the superiors if the prisoners escaped? No one was willing to take the lead with all it implied. Consequently, the prisoners were left to die a terrible death.
Human trafficking is rife in all its forms. It is so rife that illegal immigrants from Africa are arriving in their hundreds, supposedly crossing turbulent seas in uncovered boats even during these gusty winter months! This is not to mention the hundreds of other immigrants who become illegal once they outstay their visas. These unfortunate brethren of ours are then either scuttled to one of the cage camps in my district, or if they manage to escape, live the undignified life of modern slavery.
Our European nation friends and others, seek to condemn our little overpopulated island for not playing the proper host to these uninvited guests at every opportunity. Alternatively they seek to shut us up by buying our submission with EU money.
Our country deserves better. Our countrymen deserve better and so do these people, most of whom come from African nations that have been exploited and bled for centuries by these same European countries that are failing to share in the burden that giving these people a dignified life. Malta has never refused to shoulder its share of the problem, but with the protracted reluctance of other countries to do the same, Malta's load has become too heavy to bear.
Failure of our government to act strongly on the matter immediately is tantamount to being an accomplice in the business of perpetration of human misery. Failure of our government to act responsibly where it matters and how it matters, is tantamount to watching our national security burn to ashes.

Is the reason for you NOT suggesting a solution, the same as your statement? :-
"I am sure that in the few critical minutes of dilemma, all six guards wished to free the prisoners of the flames. Being an MP, your role is to suggest and implement possible changes. You are not there simply to disagree for the sake of disagreeing.
So, I ask the question: What is your constructive suggestion?
or are you simply one of many MPs (from both camps) that do not have the guts to "...be the one to suggest it and assume responsibility? "
But what exactly are suggesting? It would be apposite to remind you that you are an MP, not a novelist...
