The Maltese Olympic Committee (MOC) will elect a new Director of Sport tonight when delegates from affiliated associations will cast their vote during a council meeting at the MOC headquarters in Tal-Qroqq.
Mark Cutajar and John Zammit are the two candidates for the post vacated by Pippo Psaila earlier this year. Psaila stepped down after 14 years at the MOC, saying he disagreed with the way the organisation was being run.
Cutajar is a MOC director after being elected to the Executive Committee at the last general meeting. Zammit, on his part, has been involved in sports administration for the past 25 years and is the current president of the Malta Cycling Federation.
The successful candidate will have to deal with a hectic schedule in the coming weeks as his first major task will be to oversee Malta's preparations for this year's Games of the Small States of Europe, in Cyprus between June 1 and 6, and the Mediterranean Games in Pescara from June 25-July 6.
The MOC will be holding a press conference tomorrow afternoon where the new Director of Sport is likely to be introduced to the media.
