Warmer temperatures on the way
A cold spell is coming to an end.
Malta is nearing the end of a cold weather spell and heading for a period of warmer temperatures, Meteomalta, a private weather service said this afternoon.
It said that during the past two weeks, maximum temperatures varied from 10°C to 13°C and minimum temperatures dropped to 5°C or 6°C at times.
"What made these abnormally cold temperatures feel even colder at times was the wind which produced a wind chill effect and the low humidity.
"However, this now seems to be over as the wind shifts to a south-easterly direction as from Saturday. This should see the temperatures go up gradually to reach a maximum of around 18°C or possibly even a bit higher next week," Meteomalta said.

OUR problems: the cold weather, the banning of a play, carnival, homework, potholes, speed cameras, whether we should write skond or skont in Maltese, the disturbance caused by workers in the early morning, the lack of parking spaces, the dirt left by dogs, HOW LUCKY WE ARE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, sub-zero temperatures are quite comfortable, as long as you cover up, but no need for really thick clothes. When the temperatures drop below zero, the air humidity will be at very low levels and the body retains its heat. In Malta, due to humidity, a temperature of 5 degrees feels colder than a temperature of -2 in Germany. And wearing thick clothes helps only little, since humid air drains away body heat much quicker from beneath the clothes. Furthermore, practically all houses in cold countries are central heated, so there's no way you're going to feel cold in your own home. Anybody who spent a significant amount of time abroad in very cold countries can confirm this. So yes, in my opinion, the cold dry air of northern Europe still feels more comfortable than the excessively humid air of Malta.

I love this cold weather, its clean, fresh and healthy, keeps one on alert at all times, come summer i'm off back to good old Newfoundland, so now someonw will probably ask me why i"m here. Simple i don't know really except there is no snow and ice frozen windscreens to scrape or use a defroster before going to work. Joseph Pace Malta./Canada

We should thank God for what He gave us. Our winter is nothing compared to that of others. Having said that, we shall soon be complaining of the heat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And we are never happy.

Surely, there are clear indications that the temperature will soon gradually start to rise in the coming weeks as we approach elections for the European Parliament. However, on the day of the elections for the EPs, my meteorological office forecasts that the temperature will then sharply go down and gets as cold as ice in such a way that all Maltese citizens will stay at home and refrain from voting for the EP representatives. Definetely, this is the effect of 'climate change' which is totally beyond everyone's control. I can't figure out what would be the expression of the politicians when they realize that the only thing that they have control over is the rise of the water and electricity bills!!!

The issue with Malta is not the weather, but the poor and amateur manner in which houses are built. Single glazing standard, no central heating, then no trees to shelter from the cold winds... then you spend a fortune trying to keep yourself warm in your own home. I've been to sub-zero places like Romania in December, yet I've never felt so cold inside as I do in Malta.

Hmmmm. I dont know why everyone, or almost everyone, is happy. I love winter, I love the cold, and I love all the elements of the cold seasons. So reading this I feel pretty sad! :(

erm, don't wish to be a party pooper, however if you had to go on the following link (which i use constantly and which has never let me down), http://www.sdweather.co.nr/ it states the COMPLETE OPPOSITE. Basically we're not going to have a glimpse of the sun DEFINITELY from Thurs 5th till Sat 14th March. It's rain everyday starting with a Thunderstorm on Thurs 5th leading on to hail on 8th March and continuing with more isolated thunderstorms on the 11th March - let's hope that this site is wrong this time round, as otherwise we're in for some HORRIBLE weather!....

As the majority of us cannot afford to use any kind of heating other than a hot water bottle . we may as well be near the Artic Circle. I for one cant wait for summer. id rather be hot than frozen anyday

A relief indeed but let's not go overboard as if we were in a similar deep freeze as our neighbours a few kilometers up north or the rest of Europe particularly the UK :) :) :)
