The Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin is today expected to present candidates for the June European Parliament elections with a document containing a number of proposals.
The document was drawn up through the project managed by the UĦM and co-funded by the European Commission, which is aiming to start a debate on issues of local importance in the run-up to the EP elections.
The aim of the project is to reverse the trend where the opinions expressed on an online forum set the agenda of those contesting the elections. There is a website, 090509.org, where nine personalities representing civil society are sharing their views on nine issues of local and European importance. The figures 090509 represent Europe Day and will be marked less than a month before the EP elections.
The UĦM said the document was expected to stir a debate on a number of issues.
The elected MEPs would be representing all the Maltese and not just those who voted for them or the political party to which they belonged.
