(Adds police statement)

A man who has made a career out of selling drugs was this morning jailed for two-and-a-half years and fined 1,000 euros.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera jailed John Lawrence Formosa, 30, of Senglea after he admitted to trafficking drugs for the past three months.

But the magistrate said Mr Formosa, on whom the police had found three packets of heroin, had made a career out of selling drugs for the past 10 years.

The police said in a statement that when the man was caught trafficking the drug in Senglea on Tuesday, he tried to swallow the packets containing the drug. In a search at his residence later, the police found more items related to drug trafficking.
