It has been reported that "the Labour Party has suggested to the Electoral Commission that it charters a plane to carry its officials, party representatives and a ballot box to Cyprus on June 6 so that the Maltese contingent at the Small Nations Games can vote".

On June 6 many other Maltese nationals will be abroad; some on government business, others training, studying and working overseas. There are also volunteers and the sick who will also not be able to cast their vote. According to our Constitution, all Maltese have the right to cast their vote. So why not send planes and ballot boxes all over the world?

Why discriminate and only send a plane to the Maltese contingent participating at the Small Nations Games?

Why not grant the right to a postal vote to all those who are on the electoral register and are away from the island on election day?

How much longer has this country to suffer a retrograde Labour Party holding it back from moving forward with the rest of the enlightened nations of this world?
