I was never in any doubt that Labour has a very hazy idea of the clear line that should demarcate its interests from citizens' private property. There are too many każini that Labour governments requisitioned from their rightful private owners to give to the party as commercial clubs rented at a pittance.
I had thought new leader Joseph Muscat was trying to be different, only to be surprised by his latest suggestion that the taxpayer should now start funding his party to the tune of €4 million every legislature - a sum that will only be an appetiser for ever larger sums. If I want to contribute to a political party, that is my very private and free decision. I disagree completely with being forcefully made to "contribute" to a party I agree with, let alone having my hard earned cash "state fund" a political party with which I fundamentally disagree.
