Following successful submission of project proposal ESF 2.11 'Developing Leaders for Change and Innovation in Tourism', the Malta Tourism Authority is launching a €4 million EU-funded training and research project, designed to train and certify over 1,200 managers and supervisors in the tourism sector through a series of Continuous Professional Development programme.

The programmes will be practical and result-focused, including individual mentoring sessions as well as the possibility of an international field visit to enhance professional and self-development, says Joe Tanti, head of the Authority's Industry HR Development unit.

The training programme offers participants training modules with a strong focus on leadership skills, strategic planning, people management, sustainable tourism and corporate social responsibility, customer relations, business, and entrepreneurial skills for business growth. Modules will be delivered through a practical approach and backed up with case studies. The programme will be held in Malta and Gozo.

Two studies will also be conducted to increase the knowledge base in HR to forecast future employment opportunities and training needs in various sectors of the tourism industry. The study will extend beyond the traditional accommodation and catering sectors, and will include English, diving, creative industries, local produce and other tourism attractions.

Interested individuals in top, middle and supervisory management positions working in tourism are invited to call project leader Karl Grech on 2291 5124 or e-mail karl.grech@visitmalta.com, or call Sarah Faith Azzopardi, project executive, on 2291 5126 or e-mail sarah-faith.azzopardi@visitmalta.com.
