Hello honey, I'm on the plane
Ryanair passengers flying to Dublin will be able to make calls on their mobile phone while in flight.
Several airlines have already dropped their ban on voice calls from personal hand sets and Ryanair is following suit this week by launching the service on 20 of its aircraft, following a deal it made with mobile service provider OnAir.
So far, a Ryanair representative told The Times yesterday, the service is available on flights to and from Dublin, Ireland but it is expected to be on offer aboard the entire fleet in the coming months.
Passengers will be charged a roaming fee by the mobile service provider, which will share profits with Ryanair.
The airline said customers will be charged between €2 and €3 a minute for international calls and about 50c for a text message. E-mail costs between €1 and €2.
However, the fees are subject to each customer's price plan, set by their own mobile service provider.

Its just a thought, or it is too much to wish for

You're obviously one of life's great talkers - hope it's worth listening to, or at least , that we never end up on the same flight!

@ Gianni Xuereb:

what abour WIFI access ? Wouldn't it be a good idea if i can get a netbook on a plane and read this e-paper on the plane for example ? or some more important business work... The fees are hefty as usual. This is where Air Malta and other airlines can compete. I hope they take my advice!
I always thought in 2009 it was silly that you cannot switch on your mobile during a flight. I never switched it off anyway ;) I never crashed planes ;)

Please don't give Ryanair ideas. When they announced that mobiles could be used (at a price), this cynic thought how long before they started charging extra to sit in mobile-free zones.
Only a matter of time, I suspect.

If this catches on I really hope that airlines will introduce a "no 'phone area" like as was in the past, a "no smoking area".

Bunch of moaners! Put some headphones on if you don't like it! I think it's brilliant, absolutely thumbs up to ryanair!

Pity it's not 10 euros a minute! That would discourage long and idle chats - so annoying to those of us who like to enjoy a quiet flight, perhaps reading or nodding off.

Another reason why I will not use Ryanair if I can help it! More chatter, more noise!

So if someone say is on the mobile for about 10 mins at cost of €3. p.m thats more or less the cost of the flight itself.,why don't Ryanair provide swimming pools while they are at it. i always though to beleive that useing a mobile or a movie camera on board is dangerous for communications , ofcourse i might be wrong
