Last Sunday's matches saw Qormi and Young Stars chalk up narrow victories to keep their title bids on track.

Qormi are leading the standings with 11 points, followed by Young Stars on 10 and Rabat in third place with nine after all three teams played seven matches.

On Sunday, Young Stars will face Qormi in another top-of-the-table clash. For the record, Qormi had beaten Floriana 4-1 in the first round.

Qormi immediately took control and pinned their opponents in their own half. Qormi tried to play fast geometrical passes but they rarely troubled Mallia in Sliema's goal.

Then, on 14 minutes, Qormi won a short corner. The ball was played out to Steve Tanti who served the unmarked Philip Magri at the far post for the latter to slot the ball home.

During the first half, Qormi had other chances to increase the lead but Mallia denied them on a number of occasions.

There was no change in the pattern of the game after the break but Sliema also had their chances to equalise.

A fast counter-attack, involving Scicluna and Baldacchino, ended with the latter hitting wide. On 54 minutes, Lukas Plaehn dribbled his way into the Qormi circle but his angled hit was saved by Chircop in goal.

Though Qormi kept the upperhand throughout, they just could not add to their lead.

The first half was quite balanced with both teams containing each other in midfield.

Paul Torpiano, for White Hart, just missed the target from a short corner action early on. But a goal was in the air and on 24 minutes, from another short corner, Luke Borg Costanzi beat Mizzi in the Young Stars goal with a well-placed flick.

A minute later, Carl Tua might have doubled White Hart's lead when he was put through by Torpiano. For this miss, White Hart paid dearly when, on 30 minutes, Ivan Magro forced his way into the White Hart circle, only to be fouled on entering the D. From the penalty spot, Edward Hughes made no mistake.

After the change of ends, Young Stars immediately pressed forward and after Vassallo Agius foiled Camilleri with a top-drawer save, he was beaten minutes later with a scorching Hughes reverse hit.

For the remainder of the second half, White Hart could not get their act together and had to suffer an onslaught by the Young Stars forwards. Somehow, they managed to keep the scoreline down.
