Over one million bulbs to be distributed

More than a million energy-saving bulbs are to be distributed to households in Malta and Gozo in line with Nationalist Party's electoral promise, the Resources Ministry said yesterday.

It was reacting to a critical statement by Labour MP Leo Brincat who said that, although months ago the government had said the bulbs would be issued in weeks, the bulbs had not yet been distributed.

The ministry yet again failed to give a date by which the bulbs would be distributed but said households of one or two persons would receive five energy-saving bulbs, those of three or four persons would receive eight bulbs and bigger households would receive 10.

This exercise, it said, would help people reduce consumption and also reduce demand on the power station. It said a leaflet on energy saving measures is currently being mailed to all households.
