The government should embark on a detailed consultation process that would lead to a holistic plan for Valletta, the Labour Party has said.

The Labour Party (PL) spokesman on planning, Roderick Galdes, said government should consult before going ahead with the Royal Opera House project and the underground car park at St George's Square. The fact that the underground car park was meant to be used for members of Parliament when there was a plan for the relocation of Parliament showed lack of proper planning.

He said it was shameful that the government was treating the project as a simple paving job to avoid a consultation process. The square had four scheduled monuments. Mr Galdes said the application was not supported by detailed technical studies and the government should say how much it would cost.
