More than a million energy saving lamps are to be distributed to households in Malta and Gozo in line with an electoral promise, the Resources Ministry said this afternoon.

It was reacting to a statement by Labour MP Leo Brincat who said that although months ago the government had said the lamps would be issued in weeks, that had not happened.

The ministry did not say when the lamps would be distributed. It said households of one or two persons would receive five energy saving lamps, those of three or four persons would receive eight lamps and bigger households would receive 10.

This exercise would help people reduce consumption and also reduce demand on the power station, the ministry pointed out.

It said a leaflet on energy saving measures is currently being mailed to all households.
