Men and women in seductive Venetian masks will be adding a dash of colour to Valletta on Saturday during a Carnival evening organised to raise funds for the homeless.

The capital will be brought to life during the fifth edition of the Gran Ballo, an annual event organised in aid of the YMCA Valletta's homeless shelter - Dar Niki Cassar.

This year's event, themed 'The Art of Seduction', will be held in two parts. Masked guests will start their evening at 8.30 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise in Republic Street, Valletta, where a lavish banquet will be served to musical accompaniment and animation.

They will then walk through the city's paved streets and head towards Strait Street where vibrant street theatre will enhance the mood while they will be served kannoli and mqaret.

Next, the crowd will move on to the second part of the evening - a grand ball at the Manoel Theatre.

This year, the Gran Ballo introduces an enchanting Casanova character who will host the event, as well as live music, dance, and an interactive chorus, with a strong cast of over 40 actors, Commedia dell'Arte animators and musicians.

All proceeds will go towards Dar Nikki Cassar that houses up to 22 homeless people.

The dress code for the Gran Ballo is strictly 18th century period costume, or black suit with mask. Tickets cost €50, and may be obtained by calling 2122 1435 or 9949 9618.
