Young Stars, Depiro in goalless stalemate

Young Stars 0
Rabat Depiro 0

Young Stars and Depiro stayed in contention for this year's championship after this goalless stalemate.

The early exchanges belonged to Young Stars. By the eighth minute, they had already recorded three attempts at goal only to find keeper Azzopardi in fine form.

Then, a Silvano Vassallo thunderbolt from the edge of the D soared over the Rabat bar. Again, on 16 minutes, another Vassallo hit, following a short corner, was blocked by Azzopardi.

Rabat came more into the picture as the first half wore on and could have forged ahead had it not been for a rare miss by Branko Radojevic.

In the second half, Rabat took control of midfield, even though the best scoring chances came Young Stars' way.

Azzopardi again distinguished himself with a save on Marvin Vella and another to stop a fierce hit by Vassallo.

Rabat might have sealed the issue on 68 minutes but Charlot Antonelli failed to connect to a cross when well positioned in front of goal.

BDO Sliema Hotsticks 2

Sliema went ahead barely a minute into the match when White Hart's last man, Simon Agius, fumbled the ball in his own area and Simon Baldacchino was at hand to hit home.

White Hart's reaction was immediate as they forced two consecutive short corners. From a melee in front of the Sliema goal, veteran David Agius found space to equalise for White Hart.

On eight minutes, in another White Hart attack, Agius showed his experience and coolness in front of goal to put his side ahead.

Sliema custodian Elton Farrugia effected an excellent save on a Luke Borg Costanzi stinger and at the other end, the Hotsticks almost levelled when a hard hit by Baldacchino was cleared by Keith Laferla.

On 35 minutes, Carl Tua's slap shot found the top corner of the Sliema net - 3-1.

On resumption, Sliema did not waste any time to pull one back through a superb Baldacchino hit from the edge of the D which left Galea in goal standing.

Sliema gave their all to try and make it 3-3 but their efforts were controlled by the White Hart defence with Simon Agius coming up trumps.

On 35 minutes, White Hart launched a counter-attack through Agius. He quickly passed to the unmarked Reno Bianchi but the latter's flick at goal was irregularly stopped on the line.

From the resultant penalty stroke, Borg Costanzi made no mistake to give White Hart a 4-2 win.
