A woman was yesterday dragged across a room and badly beaten by one of two robbers who broke into her house in Alley One, High Street, Żebbuġ. Sources said the woman, 41, was upstairs when she heard noises coming from downstairs. Becoming suspicious, she went down to check and found two unmasked and unarmed men inside the house.

After attacking her, they stole around €5,000 and some items of jewellery and fled in a car.

Realising what had just happened, passers-by called the police and a doctor to assist the woman, who was admitted to hospital grievously injured and suffering from shock.

Duty Magistrate Giovanni Grixti opened an inquiry and the police are investigating.
