Updated: Disturbances at detention centres following migrant's fall
(Adds details)
An illegal immigrant's fall from a three-storey window at the Hal Far closed detention centre this afternoon has been followed by distubances at this centre and at Safi.
The Tunisian immigrant is currently at Mater Dei Hospital. He is suffering from grievious injuries but is not in danger of dying.
Sources said that the AFM anti-riot platoon has been engaged, an AFM helicopter is patrolling the area and two Civil Protection fire-engines had to be called on site to put out fires in three rooms.
A simultaneous disturbance is taking place at Safi and the AFM is on full alert, with all soldiers being on stand-by.

In my opinion there are Maltese behind all this who are are encouraging the illegal immigrants.
The Govt should not replace the furniture broken or set on fire.
No one can break our laws and that includes illegal immigrants.
Culprits should be charged before our courts and given the punishment they deserve.

This must be the fifth time this year we had such disturbances. Somehow we need government to examine a legitimate way of stopping them from coming!
What really upsets me is that EU comes here and always criticises Malta at the way we treat the illegal emigrants. But nothing is said about the problems and financial burden they cause to us tax payers!!

Why was the Tunisian in the detention centre in the first place? He should have been repatriated within hours of landing on our shores.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd - Australia
'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing,
political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian
principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is
certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God
offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your
new home, because God is part of our culture.'
'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is
that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'
'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you
every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining,
whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or
Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great
freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'
'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here.
You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

The question beckons -
Are this afternoon's accident and the disturbances related? If yes, what is the point they are trying to make?
The PM should act now about this problem, when it seems that at least 50%+1 (a very conservative estimate) of the citizens of Din L-Art Helwa are behind him.

Pls I ask all readers if you have nothing to do and kept locked up and not knowing what's happening this causes frustration and tension. I ask all concerned keep them active, teach them some trade which will be useful for them if when repatriated at least they can make a living. ALSO GIVE THEm A CHOICE let them choose which part of Africa they prefer to go. This will help then to change the tension they had in the original country, also to settle down and bring up a family. Otherwise we will experience influx of women immigrants

Prime Minister Gonzi. The people of Malta are waiting for you to take serious action to protect us from these situations. What are you going to do about it? You were elected because the people had faith in you being the best leader. We cannot take this anymore day after day. I am feeling that this is going to escalate rapidly. Why should any soldier, police officer or maltese citizen get hurt protecting us from other people that invaded us. Is this war??Get help from the EU....special military or police forces or whatever. Why are we members for then?? Dr.Gonzi are you able to tackle this situation? Are you able to protect MALTA? If not...... RESIGN.

They protest and we Maltese, unhappy because of them in our country, do nothing. We kind of deserve what is happening because we are doing nothing to prevent it

Hundreds of people which have to live like animals and which are put together sharing few square metres with tens of other people, often of a different culture, a different race, offenders and victims, all together, this can't work well too long.
Nobody of you and us and you and me would stand such conditions.
Now it explodes. And we start calling them names.
All comments below now prove that us the Maltese people are racists in the majority.
Shame on you, shame on us. Racist Malta, Prosit.

There should be a golden EU rule for all immigrants-legal or illegal in that, once you break the law (no matter what) you are automatically deported. No argument, no appeal!

What is the minister waiting to give his resignation?
Few months ago on Bondi Plus he was shocked because he saw migrants fighting and throwing fridges. He said that we are misleading the public because these cases are very rare.
Finally the truth is coming out. These accidents have been going for ages. Now the numbers of illegal immigrants is growing, so we should be prepared for anything.

My thoughts and prayers are with AFM, Civil Protection and Malta Police members. Their families must also be worrying sick about the safety of their loved ones while trying to bring the disturbance under control. In the meantime visit www.corriere.it:
Immigrazione: Lampedusa, protesta migranti in Cie
13 feb 15:12 Cronache
(Agr)

How things have changed. When these 'boat people' first starting hitting our shores (way back in early 2002), anyone uttering a single word against them was labelled as a RACIST. The public in general is, finally, recognising the illegal immigration crisis as a threat to our national security. Before criticising someone, the public should walk a mile in that someone’s shoes. People are quick to bury you but in the end the quality of the service given will always talk loudest. Let people talk if that’s their job or passtime, but in the Army there are people who live from actions rather than words. And if actions speak louder than words then the AFM’s response, in this particular situation (the illegal immigration crisis), screamed of character.

More disturbances from these people who entered the country illegally! I sincerely hope that plans for their deportation are seriously underway. The sooner these trouble-makers are expelled from our country the better.
Swift deportation will send a clear message to other would-be illegal immigrants that paying criminals $2000 to get you on a boat to Europe is futile!
Frontex must henceforth be made to turn boats packed with illegal immigrants back at sea, the same way the Italy/Libya patrols are doing. This dangerous situation for Malta must not be exacerbated further.
Let us spare a thought for our soldiers in the AFM and our firefighters, who have to deal with these disturbances time and time again.

The thing that really baffles me is why these illegal immigrants cause uprising at their respective detention centres. Afterall the real truth is that they are far more safe at a Maltese detention center then in their villages or towns as they don't have to fear death & persecution, AND they have gauranteed food, water, tea, coffee, bread, chickens, milk and all other basic comodities paid out of the taxpayers pocket, which in their countries they are deprived !!!
I'm not saying that they are in a lavish 5 star hotel, but it is a really great improvement being in a Maltese detention center than running for their lives in the jungle/desert.
The Maltese population is just asking for a little respect and gratefullness from their part and nothing else. After all they entered OUR country illegally and we are still hosting them here !!!

They are always reports of breakages and fires that break out. I would not extinguish the fire and would not replace anything they break be it a window, a bed, a door etc. I am no racist but I think it is the only thing that can be done so that they understand that what they are actually breaking are things bought from the maltese taxpayer.

Where are all the couch do-gooders now? It was easy for them to call logical Maltese people racists, and fueling these abusers by asking for their protection. Where are they now?

These centres have become more like zoos out of control, with our fellow Maltese risking injury or worse. Get rid of the whole ungrateful lot. ASAP.

Does the Maltese authorities know the words lock down. Lock them down two at a time. Off course this would cost more money. But what is money. To the Maltese government when it comes to illegals.

I do not want to play the prophet, but one of these days a soldier or a police man is going to get seriouly hurt anf there would be trouble.I pray to the dear Lord that such a day does not come, We are surrounded by these people and for them the rule of the law evaporates far too quickly. These people are in their majority coming from underdeveloped nations and we have all witnessed what they are capable of doing when thier fighting spirit is aroused. One note of advice, these people are used to being in fear of attacke iether from wild animals (some of them actually come from vilages where it is not uncommon to see a tiger lurking around ) or from persecution squads . so beware they are very quick and witty when it comes to self defence. Also most of them have an inbred hate for soldiers and policmen as in thier country they are treated worse then animals by thier security forces.

We are in peace time and yet our soldiers are continually being deployed because of rioting by illegal immigrants. The sad thing about this is that the situation is going to excalate as more illegal immigrants arrive here.
I just hope that it won't take a serious incident for the authorities to take a hard stand on this issue.

We will continue to see these illegal immigrats disturbances and danger to our security forces until all illegal immigrats are expelled out of Malta.
Gonezipn, you are responsible not only for all the damages the illegal immigrats are causing, but also for any injuries suffered by our security forces.
