Applications to MEPA for fireworks factories
There are currently ten applications to Mepa regarding the construction of new fireworks factories or the extension of existing ones in both Malta and Gozo, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi told Ċensu Galea (PN) in reply to a parliamentary question.
The applications involve sites in Għarb and Munxar in Gozo and others at Birżebbuġa, Mosta, Mġarr, Żurrieq and Għaxaq, as well as three in the limits of Rabat, in Malta.
Dr Gonzi said such developments called for important considerations related to health, third-party safety and security of neighbouring property, as well as the environment and access to the site especially at a time of emergency.

why do we need more fireworks factories, don`t we have enough, just to add more to the noise and ambient pollution, and alot of money waste and not to mention lost lives, and more buildings in the country-side,because they have to be built far and safe, and people have to stay far away for safety.plus scaring the birds when there is a feast with the letting off the fire works ,especially now that we are going to have a lot of wild birds breeding, since trapping stopped and hunting is not allowed in Spring.Where is Bird life (Malta),don`t they say anything about the fireworks.

Please do not place any of such projects anywhere around the vicinity of "Ta' Sinap cliffs", off Munxar! It will damage the entire surroundings, and it is simply magnificent there for both tourists as well as locals. Minister, please do not spoil the peace around that beautiful area! We count on you, on this exercise too.
