Villa, Llorente down England
Argentina impress in France, Germany slump
Goals from David Villa and Fernando Llorente gave Spain a 2-0 win over England in a friendly last night as substitute David Beckham equalled Bobby Moore's record of 108 caps for an England outfield player.
A careless pass by defender Phil Jagielka let the home side in to score the opener on 36 minutes.
Xabi Alonso picked up the loose ball and fired it to Villa who jinked his way past several defenders and sent a shot past David James.
The European champions dominated a toothless England and substiute Llorente doubled their lead when he outleapt the English defenders to nod past Robert Green with just under ten minutes remaining.
Beckham equalled the record of 1966 World Cup winning captain Moore when he came on at half-time at the Sanchez Pizjuan stadium, one of five changes made by Fabio Capello at the break.
In other warm-ups, Norway beat a lacklustre Germany 1-0 in Duesseldorf courtesy of a second-half Christian Grindheim goal while Jonas Gutierrez and Lionel Messi scored in each half to earn impressive Argentina a 2-0 win over France.
Germany lacked spark and creativity despite the return of captain Michael Ballack and fellow midfielder Torsten Frings, who settled a dispute with coach Joachim Loew following the Euro 2008 final defeat against Spain.
The hosts came close early in the match with Miroslav Klose heading on to Mario Gomez but his volley floated over the crossbar.
Germany were lucky not have a penalty awarded against them when Heiko Westermann clumsily challenged Daniel Braaten in the box on 21 minutes.
The Norwegians grabbed the winner in the 63rd when a crowded Germany defence, looking shaky throughout the match, failed to clear and Morten Gamst Pedersen crossed to Grindheim at the far post who tapped it in.
At Marseille's Stade Velodrome, Argentina midfielder Gutierrez fired home from a Sergio Aguero pass four minutes before the interval.
Barcelona forward Messi secured victory seven minutes from time when he slotted the ball past France keeper Steve Mandanda following an impressive slalom through the defence.
It was Maradona's second victory in two matches since he took over as Argentina coach last October.
Holland were held to a 1-1 draw by Tunisia in another friendly after Jamel Saihi cancelled out Klaas Jan Huntelaar's strike.
"This was an African opponent and we hardly have any experience with them," Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk lamented.
"The match was so hard that it was everything but a friendly. We have to learn how to handle matches like this."
In Istanbul, Chelsea striker Didier Drogba marked his return to international action with an injury-time strike which earned Ivory Coast a 1-1 draw against Turkey and in Bucharest, Croatia striker Eduardo da Silva marked his return to top-level soccer after a year-long absence by setting up Niko Kranjcar's winner that secured a 2-1 victory over Romania.
Ronaldo penalty
A second-half Cristiano Ronaldo penalty earned Portugal a 1-0 victory against Finland but the hosts far from impressed with their poor finishing.
Portugal had most of the possession in the first half, but failed to break down a well-organised Finnish defence.
Portugal created more chances in the second half and the breakthrough came on 79 minutes with Ronaldo converting a penalty after Sami Hyypia fouled substitute striker Danny.
