The Public Transport Association insisted this morning that it never objected to ADT-appointed auditors inspecting its books prior to the payment of the annual subsidy - but it had complained that the auditors this year called at its offices a month late and outstanding payments had therefore not yet been made. Such payments were usually made in the middle of January.
Association President Victor Spiteri also reiterated that the bus owners had not requested payment of the subsidy during the days they were on strike in July, as claimed by the Transport Ministry.
But whereas it had been agreed with the ADT that the amount of the deduction would be decided by arbitration, the ADT had, unilaterally, decided to reduce the subsidy by €240,000. The PTA asked for the minister's intervention but the minister backed the ADT.
