Two nominees for MOC post vacated by Psaila

Mark Cutajar and John Zammit are the only two candidates for the post of Director of Sport, the Maltese Olympic Committee (MOC) said in a statement yesterday.

Both Cutajar and Zammit have been nominated by a number of associations for the election that will decide the successor to Pippo Psaila.

Psaila, who had been Director of Sport for 14 years, stepped down last month, saying he disagreed with the way the MOC was being run.

Cutajar is a new face in the MOC after being elected to the Executive late last year while Zammit is the president of the Malta Cycling Federation.

The MOC statement said that the vote to elect the Direct of Sport will be held during the next council meeting, scheduled for Thursday, February 26.

Lochtenberg injured

Meanwhile, Jessica Lochtenberg will not be representing Malta in the 2009 European Winter Youth Olympic Festival, to be held in Slask-Beskidi, Poland between February 14 and 21.

The 15-year-old Australia-born snowboarder had to pull out of the event after she suffered an injury while competing in the United States.
