GRTU's EP electricity petition to be debated next week
A petition on the electricity tariffs by the Malta Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises (GRTU) is being debated by the European Parliament next week.
The GRTU said in a statement that this was another step forward in its fight towards fair and equal payment of utility tariffs.
GRTU’s petition to the European Parliament was moved by Maltese MEP Simon Busutill at the request of GRTU director general Vincent Farrugia.
GRTU has been insisting all along that Enemalta and the Malta Resources Authority disregarded the EU Electricity Directive and continued to impose on SMEs electricity rates that discriminated against them forcing small and medium enterprises to subsidise larger companies’ consumption.
GRTU also complained that the EU Commissioner for Energy did not give sufficient consideration to its complaint thus perpetuating the cost disadvantage of Maltese SMEs.
GRTU contended that large enterprises should not be subsidised at the expense of small and medium enterprises.

He has an axe to grind.

You are still living in the past.
The 15,000 euro fine was removed, but you keep repeating that lie.

That's what the unions should because the people are fed up with this daylight highway robbery to fill Gonezipn's empty coffer.

Yes, they did the right thing to stop Gonezipn continuing in his desperate attempts to pick every cent from our pockets. If you are happy to pay more than you should I will gladly send you my bills.

@Michael Seychell
I once believed that too back in the 80s. Unfortunately things have changed and believe me I have seen nationalists suffer as well under a nationalist government for expressing their opinion. Obviously, it`s done differently, Nationalists tactics are more sublime. The suffering is mental but it still hurts. It will never be done publicly as this would reflect badly on the party but it is still done.
How true it is that the major parties are two sides of the same coin and people will always be people.
Have you read Animal farm by George Orwell? I suggest you do.

I am pleased for Vince Farrugia and his Association for having succeeded to take the energy issue for their members before the EU on so short a time. I want to show my admiration for Simon Busuttil a PN MEP and yet he is the one who moved this petition.
Imagine a similar situation under a Labour government where a Socialist MEP moves a petition against his own party. I am sure this would not only mean the hefty penalty of 15,000 Euro he would have to pay, but also his immediate expulsion from the Labour (Democratic )Party, apart from the fact that he will have to face the anger of the party roots.

One way or another the Government will ultimately have to retract the miscalculated W & E bills and issue new ones. And if the EP is not the solution, than the unions should call the people to the streets to protest.

Nice Job, keep on going with your war, against the government and companies that are employing 100s of people, also in these days . Do you heard about ST 400 - 450 people jobs redundant ? Are you going to provide these people a job, if more than these will be fired ?? I am like all maltese paying high W&E rates, but for the moment I still have a job and maybe I will help some families of ST. Go to EU parlament and make the goverment pay panalties for what he is tring to do, saving jobs. Your shops are not doing the profit they used to do the other year? With people loosing jobs, they will do less for sure !
