Claudette Abela Baldacchino promises to give Malta a strong voice in Europe
It is only by being strong in Europe that the Maltese could ensure their voice was heard in fora where decisions affecting daily life were taken, Labour candidate for the June EP elections Claudette Abela Baldacchino said this morning.
Launching her campaign on the slogan “We have to be strong in Europe”, Ms Abela Baldacchino, a journalist, told a news conference that this was the only way the country could benefit for the sake of all its people.
The challenges ahead had to be transformed into opportunities so that no one would be allowed to fall behind.
Ms Abela Baldacchino said that in the EP, she would commit herself to social and economic aspects and illegal migration.
She said that Malta had to be strong in Europe to show that it was not an inferior country and that it should be treated equally to the other countries at all levels, including in financial matters, education, child and youth development, health and social affairs.
Ms Abela Baldacchino said she believed in a just and social Europe where everyone would find the necessary space to develop abilities and satisfy aspirations.
She said she took her decision to contest the EP elections because she believed she could contribute to the people’s progress and felt part of the winning generation being led by party leader Joseph Muscat.
Ms Abela Baldacchino said that, if elected, she would work hard for the Maltese to be really strong in Europe.

Claudette Abela Baldacchino - her track record in the Committee of the Regions is both impeccable and impressive. She's a definite and a natural choice.

People who have worked with Claudette in the EU's Committe of the Regions can vouch for her commitment and integrity, and for her preparedness to serve the Maltese electorate in the European institutions.

@G. Mangion:
The PL yes was in favour of a partnership rather than a full membership. Actually the PL was never against the EU, they were more against joining the EU blindfoldedly and at that point in time. The referendum came and AS didn't accept it. Then it was tied to the election.and PN won the election and it was a vote for EU. The PL obviously had to change its political stance regarding the EU because it accepted the current reality. So all those blubbering in vain and repeating themselves that PL is against EU, I tell them to get a life. Experience showed us that the PL MEP's did a great job in the EP and no one can deny that.

Good luck Claudette. Having know you for years, I'm convinced that once elected as an MEP, you will represent the voice of the man in the street.

Dear All,
As a PN Supporter, I believe that Sharon Ellul Bonici is eligible to be representing Malta in the EU as an MEP candidate. Recently there has been reports on media about Sharon's campaign that in my opinion are INCORRECT. Sharon has been active in Brussels for the last 4 years as an EU Affairs Consultant favoring Maltese citizens for the good of our country. I expect Dr Joseph Muscat will clarify such reports in the coming days. Anyway, I hope that Maltese citizens look for the right candidate who really supports us while should ignore others that believe in their own interest.

Claudette, as a person and as a politician can provide us with an incredible future within the EU. Her ideology is very much progressive, while keeping a stronghold on family values
Can we not look towards the future?
Whatever happened to the slogan "ghalina u ghal uliedna" anyway?
"uliedna"- i.e; the future.
Working towards a better future for our children, thinking progressively for the wellbeing of everyone- I can't understand how you can find that so "shameful".
I think it's about time that everyone looks past their "typical" political colour and started evaluating what they really want from Malta within the EU. People with a passion for what they're doing, people who want to make a difference- like Claudette.. or someone who's just there for the sake of it.

Ms Claudette Abela Baldacchino has hit the nail on the head. That is the only way with the overwhelming European Parliament; be strong. Those who have had the opportunity to stand up and speak in EU fora have learned this. Be prepared. Believe in the correctness of your demands and speak up with courage. A strong voice in the EU is what every patriotic Maltese should work for. We need more females at decision levels. They can read the human factor much better. Illegal imigrants are not just lists. Best wishes to all such candidates.

@ Michael Seychell: Dear Michael you should update yourself, or ask your Gonzi to pay a time machine so you can travel back to the present future. The PL has lifted that penalty you mentioned if you don't know. Also the GonziPN is not capable of getting all the benefits from the EU, we ended up as net contributors, thanks to the GONZIPN lack of accountability. So try to look out of your cracked glasshouse once in a lifetime.

When a prospective MEP comes out loud and clear explaing how to solve the problem of illegal immigrants then voters will take these elections seriously. I together with a large percentage of the population have lost faith in our politicians in light of this nonchalance attitude towards the invasion in malta.

I believe that Claudette is an excellent choice for MEP. I have been reading some of the comments below, and I seem to disagree. If one disagreed with malta joining the EU in the past, why should one not take hold of the opportunity in the present?
I should remind you gonzisti to remind yourself that the slogan was "ghalina u ghal uliedna"- not "ghalina n-nazzjonalisti biss". I suggest you revise yourselves in simple issues such as EQUALITY- an issue on which Claudette feels very strongly about.
Claudette is a candidate that focuses on giving EVERYONE a chance- be it political ideology, race, religion ect.
Why not?
It's someone with passion like Claudette who truly deserves a seat in European parliament.
I have yet to meet anyone with just as much passion for human welfare, for human safety, well-being and a passion for a good sustainable standard of living for EVERYBODY- not just the four papalouny friends of friends that seem to be the only ones that matter in today's world.

How can I vote for these canditates when I remember that was it for these people, we are out of the EU and we are not in the Eurozone. Only GOD know what would have happened to Malta with the recent financial turmoil that has hit almost all countries in the world. I can still remember Prof. E Scicluna stating on TV that we will not be able to reach the EU criterias to joint the Eurozone. These people are always the same people. And now they want our vote and want us to believe them that they are in favour of Malta in the EU. HALLUNA U DDAHKUNIEX!!

Mr P Debono decided to ask for respect for the countrys government.
What kind of respect is the government showing to the people that elected him ? Till now we have experienced only arrogance.
Yes we have to be strong faced with arrogance. Strong in Europe and Strong in Malta. i'll agree Ms Abela Baldacchino.

Ohh come on guys almost every member of the MLP was anti-eu...so that would mean the labour will not contest for the election? PN won, now we are in the EU and good or bad we have to abide by the system...that's what democarcy is for. We all have to work strong for Malta. One thing is for sure...that Claudette is not euro-sceptic and is looking forward to work for the interests of Malta.

Dear Ms Abela Baldacchino, I, like thousands of others would like all prospective MEP's to be crystal clear on their exact policies regarding Illegal Immigration. Having voted PN will not deter me from voting accross party lines for any MEP who is clear in his/her objectives regarding this important subject. If the parties are going to muzzle open debate by their candidates, i would rather prefer not to vote at all. We want to hear exactly what our MEP's will do if elected, but we want to hear it now, so that we can guage the parties' reactions. I don't think I am asking for much. I am not interested in what the EU will do "to help us" as we have already seen what help has been forthcoming. We want to see what our MEP's will fight for on our behalf.

Being a floater and very liberal, I see Claudette as the best candidate of the PL. She seems she got experience from the commitee of the regions and hopefully she will be good as an MEP as well. I like her and hopefully she will do well unlike some close minded labour candidates.

Ms. CAB Your ex Leader A.Sant used to say - or rather to compare Malta with other EU countries as "Makku vs Balena' - "baitfish against a whale", and aslo as "Gurdien ta' I-Imramma vs Ljun" - "A Church mouse vs a Loin". I will take your word that you will be taking a strong position in the EU, only when you admit that your previous Boss and the whole LP.
were wrong to accept Sant's theory!
I am pleased for you that you have copied and now am following the Nationalist Party's motto during the EU campaign, that - we should change all challenges to opportunities - at least you are not one of those who are still preaching the gloom and doom attitude, but prefer to take a more positive stance.
My advice to you is to accertain yourself that this position is in tandem whit the MLP's policies or else you might have to pay the 15,000 Euro penalty which is still included in the Malta Labour Party's Statute.

OH GOD NOT HER!!
What justifies her running for MEP? The lack of respect she has for the party in government and fellow journalists? The utter political blindness that makes a fool out of her? The negligible political experience she has?
Sorry but this woman is the least appealing candidate so far.
Oh and if you want to win the popularity contest, I suggest you put illegal immigration much higher up on your agenda.

What a waste of time for such a nice looking girl, whoever gets through to the final and will be representing Malta, one thing for certain Malta will not get through not even this year judgeing from the previous disatrous years, and the poor candidate will remember the downfall for rest of their life, howevewr saying this England don't stand a chance in a million so malta and England are heading for Nil Pois.

Good Luck Claudette, your track record and experience within the committee of the regions of the EU, together with how you always defended people's interests in the local councils association, gives you all the credentials to represent the Maltese people with a strong voice in Europe. Good to know that you are willing to take on the illegal immigration problem and defend strongly the Maltese at EU level.

Claudettte Abela Baldacchino!!! LOL!!!
What political experiance does she actually have? Its an embarressment that we continue to send political nobodys to represent our nation in Europe. All politics aside, I am not saying don't vote for PL, but please to all the voters, please vote for people who will bring the most from Europe to our country. This is not a popularity contest to see who from PN or PL are ahead in the polls. This is to ensure that Malta ,with the little power we have gets the best representation.
