Five migrants escaped from Safi detention camp last night, but one was re-arrested, informed sources said.

It was the second such escape this week.

A search is being mounted by the Detention Service and the AFM.

Ten migrants escaped from the camp on Thursday, of whom five were recaptured.

Last night's escape capped a difficult week for the detention service, which had to accommodate an additional 417 migrants who arrived since Sunday.

On Thursday evening, officers had to use teargas to contain a violent protest within the Safi detention camp.
