Obama thanks Muscat
US President Barack Obama has written to Labour leader Joseph Muscat thanking him for his congratulatory message following his election.
The message, passed on to Dr Muscat by former US ambassador Molly Bordanaro, reads:
"Thank you for your congratulations on my election as President of the United States.
Your thoughtful message is much appreciated.
I am confident that the United States and Malta can work together in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a more secure world during the next four years.
I look forward to working with you in that effort and in promoting good relations between our countries."

D.Gauci biased who me lol I was saying things as I feel and if you read my first sentence you would have seen my light heartedness.
V Fenech,If I said it once I said it a million times, as long as Labour has people in it who were part of the totalitarian government of the 80's then I will keep reminding them of the things they did, for as long as I am able to write and talk.
Forgive yes Forget Never, not when they ruined my future.Never again will those people be in power.I say one thing.A so called friend of mine had a list prepared in January last year with names of people he wanted to run to the ground should labour win the election. If I could send you an email and the subsequent reply by an ex Labour MP you would see that these so called people never regret the things they did.

@ K Galea
If JM keeps the same old faces like Toni Abela and Alex Sciberras Trigona and Anglu Farrugia and you name it you have it, there's not much hope for PL exMLP to be elected. and by the way, mhux jien qed inwaqqa' ghac-cajt imma il-PL exMLP qed jaqa' ghac-cajt wahdu. Now if PL exMLP doesn't want to take the message, it's up to it. The floaters are clearly saying they want change, not in government as much as a change in PL exMLP. No use being frustrated about that. Simple solution - out with the same old faces, unless they are still ruling the party.
@ CCamilleri
Nobody mentioned Gonzi in this. But now that you have mentioned, being the PrimeMinister of Malta he will probably be invited to an official dinner with Obama. So he will not get a computer generated do-not-reply-to-this-letter but it will be a very nice invitation. Ho Ho Ho

If these FREE POW style accomodation are so great as you describe, why do the inmates try to escape?
We lock up those proven to be criminal according to our constitution. Living in cuckoo-land is when we believe we are above other human beings. Being realistic is actually coming up with a solution. Such as "humane" solution.

We do not return any refugees. The very few that go back to where they ILLEGALY came from are persons entering our country illegally and that is why they are called illegal immigrants. The POW style accomodation you speak about is free of charge for them and too expensive for us to keep paying for it especially when damage is done and things are given fire and through our money and taxes they get replaced. If its an illegal entry I am sure Obama follows the same rules that apply to his country no matter what. Being realistic is what one wishes for everyone to be and no living in cuckooland.

Joe Galea. I am only joining this debacle for the simple reason of having some fun,on a sunday morning at 7 am.The note must have been typed on Obama's Balckberry while he was on his way to the Swearing in ceremony.Did Molly give it to Joseph just before she left the farewell visit? (Oh by the way joseph I have a little note for you from Obama.)I bet one person wasn't pleased with the fanfare that Labour are makeing over the note, he would have preffered a note from Kim Il Sung x tahsbu l-ahwa?

Perhaps the taste of sour Grapes is in your mouth and not mine. In thirty years of living in the USA And Toronto I was an active member in the Democratic Party in the USA and the Liberal Party in Canada. I still hold fonds memories and still in contact with a great number of individuals and often exchange pleasantries with a great number of individual that only you dream about.

Aesop's fable reminds me that LP apologists still have not sweetened the grapes, so close, yet so far, for the fourth time.
Come on, get rid of the sour taste!
Maybe Obama's letter to Joseph will do the trick. Good luck.
I am pretty sure that both the Prime Minister and the President who, no doubt sent their congratulations, will call a Press conference to officially notify the nation that they had received a thank you card from President Obama.
Don't hold your breath!

I wonder how Obama will thank any Maltese leader when he becomes aware we return Kenyan refugees after housing them in a POW style accomondation following their hazardous journey across unfreindly lands and sea.
Perhaps the Labour Pary have a better suggestion that is comunicated only betweem JM & BO. Please share it with us as its only humane to do so now.

@Joe Vella Once upon a time, according to Aesop, a fox that wanted to pick a bunch of grapes, but could not do so because these were too high, tried to persuade his on-lookers that the grapes were sour! Does it remind you of the letter of thanks sent by Obama?

Obama has sent a letter to Joseph Muscat and Joe Vella...apparently he did not mind sending a letter to Lawrence Gonzi because in that case we would have seen the PN trying to share the same opinion of Obama about gay marriages and other minority rights! These comments below show the real mess the PN is in at the moment. They even tries to twist this news into political mileage. I'm rest assured that they need it. By the way, mentioning Obama and local politicians, this is worth watching... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MndIZe5V3gE

The euphoria about Joseph receiving a 'Thank you' note from President Obama is quite amusing and a clear display of a severe case of inferiority complex on the part of the overjoyed LP supporters. Anything less than a thank you note for wishing someone well, would be unbecoming of the recipient, so what President Obama did was routine. What should be asked is whether the letter was even signed by Mr. Obama. When a government or head of state send their greetings, they do so through the diplomatic protocol and invariably receive a response in kind, however they rarely gloat about receiving a thank you note!

Something tells me that Obama made another blunder (similar to the appointments that had to be reversed). I think that by mistake
he sent the message to immature Joseph instead of sending it to the Prime Minister. Obama must realize that by the time Malta holds the next General Elections, his term will be over and he might be out. Hence he does not have 'to work' with inexperienced Joseph, but he must work with Prime Minister Gonzi. Sorry, dear Joseph, but do not let this message boost your ego. I am sure that you remember your german friend telling AS that the next time they meet AS will be prime minister. Shame AS has now been relegated to Shadow Opposition Leader. Mind you, dear Joseph, you need someone to hold your hand.

I wonder whether Joe Muscat likes being compared to Obama. (He's probably embarrassed by his supporters, as Dr Sant always was). How childish for some of you to even dare make a comparison. Where do you start? Mention just 1 thing that Obama and Muscat have in common. You guys seem desperate to align yourselves with someone who actually won seomthing. As for the letter.....not very personal now was it?
