Passenger movements at Malta International Airport in January decreased by 11.8 percent when compared to the same month last year.
MIA said that it handed 138,010 movements, a shortfall of 18,430 passenger movements on the scheduled and non-scheduled flights.
Aircraft movements also dropped by 10.4 percent to a total of 1,694. The seat capacity in January showed a drop of 9.5 percent whilst the seat load factor also decreased by 1.5 percent.
Cargo and mail handled at MIA during last month was 1,313 tonnes - a drop of 14.6 percent over the same month last year.
MIA said that the loss in passengers from the UK market was again being felt with a drop of 13.4 per cent in passenger movements last months.
MIA again experienced a downturn of the Italian and French markets, (-11.5 percent) and (-4.5 percent), respectively, likewise the German market decreased by 9.5 percent.
However Frankfurt and Rome Fiumicino airports registered an increase of 13.2 percent and 18.4 percent in passenger movements to MIA when compared while Libyan Arab traffic increased by 17.2 percent.
