Siġġiewi mayor sues for libel
With reference to the article entitled Ex Mayor Sues For Libel (February 4) please note that the undersigned is still mayor of Siġġiewi.
Furthermore, allow me to inform readers that I instituted libel proceedings against the editor of The Sunday Times and against George Micallef, in relation to the contents of a letter published by The Sunday Times on January 25, and headed Mepa's Ethics Are Confused, and not in relation to an article (Picture Lands Photographer In Trouble With The Police) and a photograph that appeared on The Sunday Times on January 11, as could be erroneously understood.
Editorial note
Mr Musumeci is indeed still mayor of Siġġiewi and the error is regretted. However, the item in question did say that the libel suit was about a letter published in The Sunday Times on January 25. The article added: "The letter, entitled Mepa's Ethics Are Confused, referred to a photo published two weeks earlier. The photo showed Mr Musumeci talking to a Mepa board member in a car park after a board meeting on a permit application."

@ Ramon Cassas Mr.
I hope you can use a dictionary and find the difference between 'prejudice' and 'opinion'.
I do not prejudge anyone but that does not mean that I cannot have opinions which vary from yours and others'.
I particularly detest the tampering with the truth.
By the way, which of my comments you regard as 'prejudicious'?

Well you wouldn't Mr Martinelli would you . We are so well used to your prejudices, which you never cease to expound upon, that we tend to ignore them.
Mr (I presume)Murray, titles in Malta are very important to self important men. Haven't you noticed the amount of Doctors of this and Doctors of that?. The truth of the matter is that most of them are Doctors of nothing more than their over inflated ego's.

@ Peter Murray
I think the fuss is about accuracy of reporting which should take precedence over the speed at which such reports are published in the name of being a 'breaking news' item.
Personally, I don't think that the story itself was worthy of much publicity.

What possible difference could it make to any libel proceedings whether or not the person issuing such is a Mayor ,ever was a Mayor, still a Mayor, or otherwise? What is all this fuss about? It's like two bald men fighting over a comb.
