British low-cost airline easyJet said yesterday it may scale back fleet growth plans if the economic climate worsens this year, as Chairman Colin Chandler announced plans to retire.

The carrier, which raised its first half revenue forecast last month partly due to an increase in business travellers, said the global downturn would see it adopt a cautious approach to growth - a stance favoured by founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou.
