Outgoing US ambassador decorated for distinguished service
Outgoing US Ambassador Molly Bordonaro was made a Member of the National Order of Merit this morning in recognition of her distinguished service for the promotion of US-Malta relations.
She was conferred with the decoration by President Eddie Fenech Adami a day before she leaves Malta at the end of her three-year term.
The citation praised Ambassador Bordonaro for her work in the promotion of international dialogue and bilateral relations. It included a long list of achievements, including Malta's inclusion in the Visa Waiver Programme, the double taxation avoidance agreement, the resettlement of migrants in the US, the establishment of closer relations between the University of Malta and US universities, and training facilities for the AFM and the Customs Department.
Mrs Bordonaro said she was honoured by the recognition of her work and said she was sad to be leaving the Island.

Alex Spiteri, you should direct your insults to the prime minister and his cabinet for the influx of illegal immigrants and not the American Ambassador. Should also thank the EU for their empty promises.

I only met Ms. Bordanaro a couple of times but she was always charming, hard-working and effective. She set the bar very high for the incoming ambassador.

Dear Molly,
Your sadness at leaving pales into insignificance compared to ours at having to say goodbye.May your God guide and protect you and yours.

Dear Ambassador, you won the hearts and minds of the Maltese. Your work brought Malta closer to the USA. But most of all, you have shown how even the mightest country, the USA, can have place for a small country like ours. And this is what makes the USA so great. Many thanks and God bless you.

Good Luck for your future assignments Mrs.Bordonaro.
You were one of the best ambassadors we had. No need to mention the positive actions that were taken during your term, without forgetting the natural smile that you had. The decoration definetely is more than appropriate.

thank you for the boats and maritime training u provided to our army in order to bring more illegal immigrants to malta mrs. bordanaro. thanks also for the few immigrants u took to the states, in order to make malta more attractive to africans. thanks also for being involved in getting popstars visiting illegal immigrants in Marsa, so that they could feel home and 'integrated'. u trully gave us a distinguised service and fulfilled most of ur objectives in turning malta into a multiracial state. now go back to ur once great country and enjoy multiracialism urself!

Like so many Maltese citizens I have followed the outgoing US Ambassador Molly Bordanaro through press reports and the various initiatives to promote US-Malta relations. As Member of the National Order of Merit an official recognition has been bestowed on a worthwhile representative during challenging times of scrutiny of the American Ideal and the American dream viz-a-viz individual human rights, Principle of Law, fair trials and the promotion of justice.
