Malta International Airport last year handled a record 3.11 million passengers, an increase of 4.7 per cent over the previous year.
The airport attributed the net increase of 139,039 passenger movements to the positive results achieved by Air Malta as well as the performance of the low-cost carriers, particularly Ryanair and Easyjet. Air Malta's increase in passenger movements exceeded 110,000; Ryanair and Easyjet were each responsible for approximately 170,000 additional passenger movements.
The overall increase in passenger traffic at European airports was 0.4 per cent between January and November. MIA registered a growth of 5.3 per cent for the same period.
