Michael Mifsud is today expected to join Barnsley on loan until the end of the season after he agreed personal terms with the Championship club last night.

As reported in The Sunday Times, Mifsud spent yesterday weighing up Barnsley's offer after the latter had received the green light from Coventry City to speak to the player.

With the January transfer window in the UK closing tonight, Mifsud had to make a quick decision whether to see out the final five months of his contract with Coventry or move to Barnsley.

Barnsley had been willing to sign Mifsud on a permanent basis but they agreed to take him on a short-term deal after further talks between all parties concerned, insiders told The Times last night.

At Barnsley, Mifsud will link up with fellow Malta striker Daniel Bogdanovic who joined the Tykes from Bulgarian club Lokomotiv Sofia last month.

Barnsley slipped to 19th in the Championship table after a 2-0 defeat to Bristol City last weekend.
