Disability Commission protests over lack of access
The National Commission, Persons with Disability, has filed judicial protests against Gozo Channel and Banif Bank over lack of access.
The Commission said the Banif Bank branch of St Julians lacked wheelchair access despite this being a MEPA development permit condition. The bank’s head office also lacked such access, the commission said.
The commission said it had meeting with the bank, to no avail.
It also added that despite agreement reached with Gozo Channel on procedures for use of the ferries, including the publication of an information booklet, the booklet had not been published.

Charles Sammut What about the pavements having sloping ramps in front of garages instead of the pavement being level and the garage owners using portable ramps to get in and out of their garage? This is downright dangerous for normal pedestrians, let alone for wheelchair users.

Last time I checked, Banif in St. Julian's did have wheelchair access...

Roads are unfit for cars, pavements are unfit for pedestrians, never mind wheelchairs. What excuses exist for wheelchair ramps on pavements are more often than not, downright dangerous
Has the National Commission, Persons with Disability filed any judicial protests against the ADT or whoever is the body (ir)responsible? Or are private companies easier prey?

And what about the Gozo Law Courts?

While I fully agree that all facilities should have access to the disabled, shouldn't the commission start by forcing the governments hands into making the streets accessible? What is the use of the likes like Banif Bank, catering for disabled and spending a lot of money in the process, if the disabled cannot reach the bank in the first place due to innacessable roads and pavements?

What about again asking Bank of Valletta to make their branch at Naxxar Road, Balzan accessible to people with motorised wheelchairs. All efforts in the past with the Balzan and B'Kara Local Councils, the KNPD and ADT have proved futile.

The lack of access for Persons with Disability is not only in these two referred places.
In Republic Street in Victoria where it should be considered as the center of Gozo the access for these persons is being continuously prohibited.
Even the pavement of the new road to Gharb from Victoria is not good for wheelchair bound people.
