The government should ensure that initiatives to offer value added services to tourists do not result in new monopolies and price abuse, the Labour Party's spokesman for tourism, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca said.
Transport services from the airport to hotels on the basis of pre-bookings offered by Malta International Airport are resulting in abuse that needs to be investigated, according to Ms Coleiro Preca.
Transport was not being offered solely on the basis of pre-bookings and this is detrimental to other parties licensed to carry out these services such as white taxis, she said.
Furthermore, the company contracted by MIA to carry out the service now enjoys a monopoly and the cost of the service to the tourist is sometimes higher than that quoted by the white taxis, she added.
