I heartily congratulate the minister who came up with the brilliant idea of encouraging the use of bicycles on our roads, even offering a rebate to those who buy themselves a bicycle. I have one question however. What about making our roads safer before encouraging the use of bicycles, like doing something about the large number of potholes that our roads are overrun with?
My son, who is a believer in safeguarding the environment, attempted to make use of a bicycle to get around with.
Unfortunately he is quickly coming to the conclusion that it is something quite impossible. Apart from the amount of traffic on our busy roads, he has to contend with reckless drivers, narrowed roads and obviously, potholes.
In the past three months or so he has had two accidents because of potholes, which could have had serious consequences.
He is quickly coming to the conclusion that getting around on a bicycle is an impossible dream for this country, in spite of any minister's initiatives.
