Vittoriosa Stars continued their march towards promotion with a fine win over Rabat Ajax.

With Anthony Eviparker firing on all cylinders few could doubt Vittoriosa's performance. On their part Rabat also had their chances but Adrian Mifsud was the culprit, missing several sitters.

The Cottonera side have now joined St Patrick on top of the standings with 15 points, albeit having played a game more.

Rabat went close first on seven minutes when Manwel Muscat's shot finished just over. However, it was Vittoriosa who struck first on 13 minutes when Rabat goalkeeper misjudged a corner by Laganà and Charles Cachia headed the ball into an empty net.

Rabat were struggling and almost conceded a second on 17 minutes when Anthony Eviparker looked odds on to score from a good position but was blocked as he was about to shoot.

Two minutes before the break Adrian Mifsud shot straight at the goalkeeper and from the rebound Keith Micallef drove the ball wide.

On 57 minutes Mifsud was unlucky when he turned past two defenders but his shot hit the upright. On 64 minutes Darren Grech should have scored but shot wide when through on goal.

Vittoriosa paid dearly for this miss as on 69 minutes Mifsud drove the ball home from close range.

Mifsud should have struck again on 75 minutes but with only the keeper to beat he drove the ball wide.

Vittoriosa regained the lead two minutes later when Eviparker fired home from a Darmanin cross.

The Nigerian then wrapped up Vittoriosa's win in added time when he finished off a good move by Johann Spiteri.
