A jubilant Duncan Vella was crowned Malta Open champion on Monday after securing his seventh straight win in a row in this year's edition of the championship organised by the Malta Chess Federation.

Vella trounced all opposition and one after the other the chess kings of J. Klotz, F. Aguilar, J. Gauci, C. Psaila, national champion C. Pace, I. Attard and J. Richards had to bow low and accept defeat.

Vella won this title for the first time in the year 2004.

Colin Pace was second overall, 6/7, while Gauci and Aguilar were joint third on 4.5/7.
