New instrument
The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra has received a new harpsichord manufactured by world-renowned German maker JC Neupert.
The instrument was sponsored by Bank of Valletta. The Blanchet double-manual harpsichord is considered to be one of the top-of-the range models in the field and is used by some of the world's leading orchestras, such as the Berlin Philharmonic, and can be found in world leading institutions such as the Shanghai Oriental Arts Centre.
The new instrument was officially inaugurated during a concert at the Manoel Theatre last Saturday.

This should open up the Orchestra's resources - or at least that part of it directly involved - to the wide field of Baroque music which, for the lack of such instrument, has hitherto not been made known to local audiences.
