"Opera Architect In Malta". This was the heading 52 years ago on the Times of Malta of Tuesday, December 11, 1956. (source: The Times, December 11 - Half A Century Ago).

I wonder if the project submitted in those days by Ingegnere Alziro Bergonzo of Milan in partnership with Signor Zavellani-Rossi for the reconstruction of the Royal Opera House, being the winners in an international competition organised by the coalition government of the day, is still available for public viewing. Thousands of liri have been spent so far on plans and designs with no results. With all the money spent we should have at least the basement of our national opera house completed.

The public should be given a percentage of weight in the final outcome for both the use and the design of the site. It is public money and we deserve a final say.
