I write with reference to the story (January 22) about enforcement actions on caravans at Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq as it fails to illustrate this parliamentary secretariat's reaction to statements by the Safari Camping Club.
The Safari Camping Club fails to qualify how the costs of the operation were needless.
The Land Department supplied the owners of caravans with two days' notice to evacuate the area. Land Department officials in fact visited the area four days after the notice was served, giving ample time for mobile caravans to be removed. Anyone will agree that any structure which cannot be removed in the span of four days is of disputable mobility.
Most structures on site were in fact rendered permanent by means of concrete platforms, division walls, banisters, iron roofing, tiled patios and such. Hence expenses incurred were all necessary.
