Under-16s caught in entertainment places
During December 2008 and to date in 2009 the police caught 12 persons aged under 16 in places of entertainment in St Julians.
As a result, the police are taking action against six people who are responsible for the running of the places of entertainment where the youths were caught.
Justice Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici gave the information in reply to a parliamentary question by Carmelo Abela (PL).

Agree with you. Close them down for at least a year and if it happens again close them for ever and prohibit the person concerned from ever holding another licence.

Just a hundred years ago in our country and most of Europe it was quite common for people aged 14 years to get married and start having children. This is still common in many parts of the world. Nowadays we are living in a country where we have the dictatorship of the 'minor'. Where they are held responsible for anything and older persons must suffer for younger persons' mistakes.
Instead of laws 'protecting' children we need laws that responsibilize them.

I agree with Mr DeMartino 100% I am parent of a 14 years old boy so far his choice is to stay home and play on his computer games , but when the day comes I AS A PARENT will be responsable where my son goes , Me and my husband are very open mined people and we talk to out kids the right and wrong in life and yes we watch what goes on on the PC but alot of parents THESE DAYS rather let them do what they like than being responsable and say NO . and YES i agree the if the children are under age the Action by Police should be taken agains the PARENTS

Mr Demartino,
How are the parents going to know what bar in paceville their children end up in ? Do you expect the parents to spend the evening with their children and monitor their every step. Just rest assured that in many cases, the parents will even appreciate if someone in authority gives their children a good telling off. In these "enlightended" days, unfortunately, the parents are often no longer respected and their words are definitely not taken as law. Sad but true.

More should be emphasized on this and more examples set. Too many youngsters are going to places where they are not supposed to. This is resulting in their attitudes when they grow a little bit older.
They experience getting drunk at the age of 13/14 and then obviously at 18/19 they want to try cocaine for instance.
Authorities should interfere in this so this culture of 13 year olds getting smashed in Paceville and smoking is changed. It will benefit them and society.

When are we going to treat children as children? Even our laws do not protect them- see the Commissioner for Children Act - see how the Maltese legislator describes children- Act VII of 2003 - 5th December Chapter 462
Even your paper (Sat.24th) carried a two page news item on a so called 12 year old model- if this isn't child exploitation, I don't know what is!
But here nobody bats an eyelid! So what can I say- the less laws we have which protect children, the more fuel for peadophiles!!
