The First Hall of the Civil Court has provisionally upheld an application by the GRTU, Malta Chamber for Small and Medium Enterprises for a warrant of prohibitory injunction to stop Rabat Local Council and the Malta Transport Authority from implementing a new traffic management system in Parish Square, Rabat.
The GRTU said the proposed new traffic management system, focused on St Paul Square, would cause the locality to be split into two, thus causing detrimental and prejudicial financial losses to businesses.
It added that during meetings held with Rabat Local Council, the GRTU and the Rabat Business Community proposed the introduction of a traffic light system similar to that utilised in several European historic centres in order to alleviate potential congestion. The council however recently informed the GRTU that it had discarded this proposal, the GRTU said.
