Another wave of complaints about Maltapost seems to have hit the newspapers again these last few days. This includes my two cases.

On November 28 I posted a larger than normal envelope containing some 12 copies of important documents at one of the post boxes in Mosta at about 6.45 a.m. They were addressed to a particular law firm in Valletta. Seeing that these documents were not acknowledged I inquired, only to be told that the documents were never received. The lawyer also checked with his colleagues in case the envelope was left on someone else's desk by mistake. All this proved fruitless. My letter was not delivered, presumably lost.

I had to go through the hassle of compiling fresh copies of documents and posting them under registered mail. Thank God, this time, the documents were safely delivered.

A few days after filing a written complaint to Maltapost, I was informed by Customer Care that my case "is being investigated". Up to the time of writing, I am still unaware of the outcome of investigations.

I feel it is not fair to have to send letters under registered mail in order to ensure their safe delivery. This costs extra money and time lost queuing up after people paying their bills at post offices.

Another thing which upset me relating to Maltapost was a letter addressed to me at my old address of eight years ago. The letter was returned to sender and marked "moved".

My daughter and I have been living in our present address (also in Mosta) for the past eight years. There are only the two of us bearing this same surname in Mosta and we receive constant mail daily.

Was the non-delivery of my letter the fault of the Sorting Office or someone's lack of efficiency?
